I Hear A Bell in My Head

I hear a bell in my head

Chiming as if from a distant tower calling

When your eyes smile good morning.

I hear a bell in my head

Chiming like a timepiece punctuating

When you share each step of your daily journeys.

I hear a bell in my head chiming

In murmurations down my spine flowing

When you hand your thoughts to me

At the end of day.

I hear a bell in my head chiming

Like a blackbird each precious moment praising

When I fall asleep knowing

I take delight in you.

I hear a bell in my head

Chiming as if from a distant tower calling…

Heaven’s Inbox

For Sarah

A place where all the good things go

Like pictures of your bluebell woods

And cherry trees in blossoms white,

And small, still frogs in silent ponds.

Of spring, of sun,

Your pretty legs in summer dresses,

And flower fairies on the terrace.

Of family and friends and lovers,

And conversations late at night

Of journeys made and those imagined.

Of pasts, and futures, and the present.

A key to souls who mingle.

A gift, a haven, my treasure trove.

Perseus without a shield

Like Medusa you look at me.

Changable eyes of every shade of grey

Turn from cynical self-deprecation

To cutting steel, glittering a warning.

And like Perseus without a shield

I feel myself grow brittle,

Cracks creeping up my spine,

Branching out across my back.

Almost an afterthought,

That polished shield.

I see my own grey abstractions there,

The long shadow I can cast.

Now I feel you close behind me,

Your snakes hissing in my ear.

I slowly raise my eyes to yours –

You see yourself in mine.

And slowly your bent head

Settles on my shoulder.

Like golden ornaments your snakes

Curl around my hand in your hair…
